Join us for a hands-on workshop designed to support Indigenous undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in making a submission to present at IWGC 2025. The workshop will include information about the conference and how to make a submission. Special Guest Shawn Wilson will provide a talk on decolonized approaches to presenting your work. Snacks provided and no sign up is required - just show up!

Who can make a submission?Everyone is welcome to make a submission, including Indigenous community members, academics, community leaders, wellbeing practitioners, students and anyone else with something to share about Indigenous wellbeing. If you're having trouble with your submission, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support you!

What should I do if I am in the middle of my research, project, or wellness initiative?Works in progress are ok too! However, you should be able to clearly articulate what the purpose is of your work, who you are working with, and where (community or Nation) the knowledge originates from.

What if my submission isn’t academic or research-focused?That’s absolutely okay! The purpose of this conference is to create space for all voices to be heard when it comes to Indigenous wellbeing. Submissions can be rooted in lived experience, community work, storytelling, art, culture or any other form of expression. We welcome contributions that reflect the many ways Indigenous knowledge and care are shared and practiced.

Can I submit to more than one category?Yes, you can submit up to a maximum of 2 presentations.

Can submissions be co-authored?Yes, submissions can be co-authored. However, specific categories will have a limit on the number of people who can present.

Can I still submit if I am unable to attend the entire conference?Yes, you can submit your work even if you can’t attend the full conference. However, you will be expected to attend the day you are scheduled to present. If you are accepted to present and having scheduling issues, please contact us as soon as possible.

What are the estimated costs to participate?The conference registration fees are expected to be $75/day for a standard ticket, $30/day for students, presenters, and Indigenous community members. Conference registration fees may be waived to increase accessibility. There is no conference registration fees for Elders or Syilx people to attend. Tickets are inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and refreshments.

Is there any financial support available for participation?Yes! We have a limited number of stipends available. This is intended to support travel and accommodation expenses for Indigenous community members including students. Within the submission portal, you can indicate whether you would like to be considered for financial support.

How are submissions approved?An Indigenous Community Advisory Committee made up of community leaders, young adults and Elders helps to select the submissions, alongside the Urban Indigenous Wellbeing Collective.

Is there a virtual presentation option?Unfortunately, there is no virtual presentation option.

Is there an option for an oral submission?Yes! You have the option to submit either a written or oral submission. If you would like to make an oral submission, please reach out to us and we can have a one-on-one chat to gather information about your submission.

Where can I get help in writing and making my submission?We will be hosting an in-person Student Workshop on May 27 from 10:00am-12:00pm PDT at Indigenous Programs and Services UNC 210 UBCO, and an Online Community Webinar on June 5 from 12:00-1:00pm PDT to support with submissions. If you have any other questions, concerns, or need help after these sessions, please contact us as we are more than happy to help!

What supports are available for Elders during the conference?We are committed to ensuring that Elders feel welcomed and supported throughout the event. There will be Elder support people available on site to assist as needed. Elders are also welcome to bring a support person with them. Additionally, a designated Elder room will be available throughout the event as a quiet and comfortable space for rest or private conversations. If any specific accommodations are needed, please let us know in advance so we can do our best to support you.

What supplies are available at the conference?We will have audio/visual equipment available, including a screen, projector, and microphones if needed. Please let us know your technical requirements when you make a submission. Any other supplies needed for your presentation, like arts and crafts materials, must be provided by the presenters.
